No Greater Love

A little 11 year old boy with a bright, shining smile and engaging spirit in one act of love and devotion tried to get help for his mother. He jumped out of the car unto moving traffic on a busy interstate highway. He tried to flagged down a motorist and was struck and killed. His mother was being beaten and dragged by her boyfriend who was attempting to kill her. Her son’s last thoughts were only of her-the object of his love. He wanted only to save her.
Jesus’ last thoughts on Calvary were of us-the objects of His love. He came to knowing full well he would be struck down at the intersection of hate and rejection. However, it didn’t matter. He was willing to go head long into oncoming traffic and take the full impact of an unknowing, blinded, and distracted world for love.
The scripture said, “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:12-14 KJV
Divine love came to us to show us how to live and operate in the kingdom of God. He modeled love, healing, compassion, truth, justice, grace and mercy. He demonstrated how to use power and authority, and how to forgive. The Divine Expression-the Word became flesh and showed us no greater love.

Seven Ways to Express Love for God

Because of Who You Are
How do we show our love for God? We are told in Deuteronomy 6:4-6, “The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart…KJV.
What does loving the Creator of the universe look like? Here are some ways to consider. They are not ranked in any order.

1) Desire Him. Want to be in His presence and experience what is called in Christian circles as fellowship. It is having a strong yearning to be with him. Moses asked to see God face to face, but the Lord said it would be too much. So Moses caught a glimpse of God as He moves on the backside of the mountain. The key point here is Moses wanted more time with God. His desire was to be in Holy Communion with the one who created him and sent on to experience life. We should want to have an intimate fellowship with God; to earnestly seeks and bask in the radiance of His holy and loving light. Jesus said if we but knock at the door He would come in and be with us.
2) Saturate your mind with His Word. How do you get to know someone-really get to know them? It’s by spending time in their presence. The same principle applies here. In order to show how much we love God, we need to spend time in his word. Read, meditate, study, discuss what you discover with others. Ask for our loving God to reveal himself to us.
3) Praise Him. Now therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name. 1 Chronicles 29:12-14 KJV. Praise means to express admiration or approval for what God has done, and to express thanks and appreciation.
4) Worship God. You do this by showing devotion and having intense love and admiration for Him. Prayer, singing, lifting up our hands in joyous celebration of His works in services and fellowship demonstrate appreciation for all the things He has done. The Bible says “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth”.John 4:23-25. I like what the writer on http://www.praise-and-worship.com/ said about worship, that it involves having a heart of submission, obedience, humility, repentance, and commitment. To love God is to worship fully with everything you have.

5) Share God and His message. Tell others about the goodness of God. Carry the message of love into all the world. This does not mean you have to leave the country, but you can be a living example of the abundant seed of Divine love. “This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you”.John 15:11-13
6) Demonstrate the love of God. Author and preacher Jonathan Edwards in his Treatise on Grace wrote, “Because we are abundantly taught in the Scripture that Divine Love is the sum of all dauty; and all that God requires of us is fulfilled in it, i.e., That love is the sum of all duty of the heart, and its exercises and fruits the sum of all [the] duty of life.” Everything we do and say should be summed up in the love we have for one another and for ourselves. We are His branches on the Tree of Life, and as such each branch should blossomed with the sweet aroma of His Love.
7) Believe in God and His Son. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:15-17 If God could send His only Son out of love of us to earth, and to pay for our sins, we in turns need to show our profound love for Him by believing in Him and His Son Jesus Christ. Trust Him and believe in the truth of His love.

I said at the beginning that these activities or disciplines were not in any order. Some may read this and think, well I would have put Number 7 as the first thing we need to do to show our love. And you would be right. Belief in God and His Son is the first act of love. God wants to have a fantastic relationship with us; to love on us; to restore us; and to enjoy our company. So maybe your faith and trust in Him as Lord and Savior would be to say Yes, I want to be in the relationship, and then to begin the journey. Now that’s loving God.

More Than Anything

More Than Anything

Songwriter Lamar Campbell wrote a beautiful song entitled More Than Anything.  The words of the song goes like this:

“I lift my hands in total adoration unto You. You reign on the throne for You are God and God alone Because of You my cloudy days are gone I can sing to You this song,  I just want to say that I love You more than anything
Love me in Your arms, You were my shelter from the storm.  When all my friends were gone You were right there all along I never knew a love like this before, Oh I just want to say that I love You more than anything.
I Love You Jesus. I worship and adore You. Just want to tell you Lord, I Love You more than anything.

The sweet melody of the song resonates with complete  fulfillment of scripture.  For it is written,  “And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.” Deuteronomy 6:4-6 KJV.

Today, let us each move into that quiet space with our mind, body and soul says more than anything I love you Lord.

His Truth

“God is vitally concerned with truth. His word teaches the truth; His spirit reveals the truth; His Son leads us to the truth.”  John 8:32 (HCSB), states “you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” What is the truth about God’s love?  Can we know this truth?  Author and preacher Jonathan Edwards wrote Treatise on Grace, where hes described the natural man as being “perfectly destitute of any sense, perception or discerning of those things of the Spirit…he neither does nor can know them, or discern them because they are foolishness to him.”  God wants us to know the truth of HIm, Jesus and the kingdom of God. He wants us to have the divine seed of the fruit of the spirit: love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance (Galatians 5:22-23). However, only those who believe in Him, His Son Jesus have this truth seed or divine seed within them. It is a curious thing that there are laws governing our actions and behaviors, and yet each day there is mounting evidence that these laws are inadequate.  They cannot convert the natural man into a man who demonstrates the fruit of the spirit.  It is only by knowng the eternal truth of God can the natural man be re-born.

When we are re-born, then we have access to the divine seed, and become a spiritual being of light and love with the opportunity to truly discover the truth of God’s amazing love for us.  This truth transforms us, and our actions and behaviors are governed not by man’s laws, but by God’s truth and love.

I hope this day you will surrender the natural man and the weight that so easily beset us and go to the fountain of eternal truth and love and be made free and whole.

Love Conquers All!

How does the world view love?  How is it described?

Love shows up in all the manner of situations and circumstances.  The pairings of people, places and things can easily be morphed into displays of affections, caring, compassionate, and even love.  The word “love” carries with it strong emotions, but nothing can compare with the amazing, incomparable love God has for us.  The writer of the book of John stated God is love, and whoever loves Him has a unique relationship with God. But no other relationship or pairing of individuals can compare with the loving connection God and Jesus have for one another, and for us.  God loves us, and so does Jesus.  God loves Jesus, and Jesus loves God.  God sent Jesus here to show us the Father and serve as an example of supreme love. Jesus was obedient unto His death on the cross because He loves us.  The world may see love differently. The highest expression of love is Jesus.
