The Glory of the Lord

“And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost.” Acts 2:4

A Message from C. H. Spurgeon

“Rich were the blessings of this day if all of us were filled with the Holy Ghost. The consequences of this sacred filling of the soul it would be impossible to overestimate. Life, comfort, light, purity, power, peace; and many other precious blessings are inseparable from the Spirit’s benign presence.  As a sacred oil, he anoints the head of the believer, sets him apart to the priesthood of saints, and gives him grace to execute his office aright.”

Even as I am typing this blog, the presence of His gracious and precious spirit is upon me.  It’s becoming difficult to write, my spirit is soaring.  His presence has been all over us since our return to the US.  Everywhere we’ve been since returning from Uganda has been transformed.  Last night, during a rehearsal for our upcoming Pre-Convention Concert, the Holy Spirit descended, and rehearsal became a glorious time to worship and praise to the Most High, Almighty God.  There was power, a sweetness, a gladness, and a hunger and thirst for Him.  We didn’t want to leave…the praises kept going, and going…. “And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost.”

“As the only truly purifying water he cleanses us form the power and sanctifies us unto holiness, working in us to will and to do of the Lord’s good pleasure.”  The praises continues last night making it difficult to prepare for bed.  And now this morning I’m still praising him. It’s been two hours.

Oh, God, thank you, thank you.  How wonderful, how glorious.  The glory of the Lord is my strength;  it is my joy; it is my power; it is my peace that passes all understanding.  It is the glory, His glory.

“As the light, he manifested to us at first our lost estate, and now he reveals the Lord Jesus to us and in us, guides us in the way of righteousness.  Enlightened by his pure celestial ray, we are no more darkness but light in the lord.  As fire, he both purges us from dross, and sets our consecrated nature on a blaze.  He is the sacrificial flame by which we are enabled to offer out whole souls as living sacrifice unto God. As heavenly dew, he remove our barrenness and fertilizes our lives. O that he would drop from above upon us at this early hour.”

O dear friends, I wish you could be here with me.  I wish you could feel His presence right now.  I wish you, with the other saints coming from around the globe to join us in Charleston for our July convention.  God has promised an amazing manifestation of His presence.

May His glory remove all the barrenness of your soul, and may the light refresh you so that you too can feel His glory.

Joy fills my soul; joy and thanksgiving for His amazing, amazing glory.  Since returning from  Uganda, his blessed assurance is dispelling the cares and doubts which mar my peace.  He is breathing new life within me, and His glory descending; and transforming.  How Great is our God….

The glory of the Lord, how priceless.

A Morning Thought

I’m reading from the book “The Daybook of Grace” and today’s meditation comes from 1 Thessalonians 5:8;
But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.”
Put on the whole armor of God is a divine directive. God’s armor defeats the enemy; for we wrestle not against people, but against spiritual wickedness in high places. But nothing out there can defeat us, because of our position as “more than conquerors” through Christ our Lord and Savior. So no obstacle, circumstance, economic shift, or disaster – nothing can bring us down because of His amazing love and power.
So fully armed yourselves by being self-controlled, and clothed in faith, love and hope. Christ has done his part. He has provided everything needed for the day. And we can rest in the blessed assurance of His magnificent power and love for us. Thomas Brooks once wrote, “God hath in Himself all power to defend you, all wisdom to direct you, all mercy to pardon you, all grace to enrich you, all righteousness to clothe you, all goodness to supply you, and all happiness to crown you.” Out of heaven’s storehouse receive these precious and powerful gifts for this day.

Bring the Light

Keep the altar of private prayer burning.” C. H. Spurgeon

Is it quiet where you are?  Your home peaceful and secure?  Does your mind, body and spirit reflect the light and presence of God?

If not, then perhaps your sanctuary and private altars has not touched the throne of God.  It is easy for our minds to become confused, our thoughts twisted, our passions aflame with wrong desires and emotions.  Our thoughts, desires, passions must not be conformed to this world, but transformed by the renewing our of minds daily with prayer.  The flame of prayer purifies our thoughts, and as it does the mind is clear, and we can hear from God.

It’s a beautiful day.  Enjoy it, but don’t forget to go to the altar and pray.  The light of your prayers will cast a heavenly glow for someone desperately searching for the it.

The Power is On

Call to Me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” Jeremiah 33:3 NIV

Power on, power off. Storms have wrecked havoc across our state.  People are coping, but it has been a challenge.  Anytime the power is off communications, recreational activities, emergency services, and basic living conditions can be negatively impacted.  However, when it is running smoothly life move forward.  The same is true for us.  When we’re connected to the right power source, our lives flow at the right tempo.

God urges us to call him, and He will provide answers to those “great and unsearchable things.”  Answers to the “Why is this happening?” Answers to What do I do now?  Questions about Who am I and Why am I here, and Can I really be forgiven are always available through our power source-God the Father.   There are lots of other power sources out there, but they have faulty wiring and cannot be trusted.  Those other power sources will shut off, or go down at a moment notice.

Isn’t it reassuring to know the Great Power of the universe will never be off?

To receive answers to questions, and directions for our lives, we must be connected to Him.

The Power is On.

Staying Connected

John 15:5 states,  “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”

God is not in the business of making those who are strong stronger, rather He takes the weak and makes them strong through His Son, our Savior Jesus Christ.   And how is this accomplished?  How do we become instruments for His plan and purpose in this world?  By staying connected to the true vine.   No movement, growth, development takes place without staying connected to the power source of the universe-God.  We can’t bear fruit [His fruit] without Him.  We try, and fail miserably.  There is ample proof of that.  But when our lives are devoted to Him, when our hearts seek Him, when our eyes are fixed on Him, we become stronger, more creative, more loving, more giving, we become more like our Christ.  But we must stay connected to the vine.

One of the ways to stay connected is through prayer.  How is your prayer life?   John Bunyan wrote, ” Pray often, for prayer is a shield to the soul, a sacrifice to God, and a scourge for Satan.”  The Holy Scriptures encourages us to pray, and provides many examples of how to pray, and answered prayer.  In fact, we are obliged to pray. It is our duty to pray, and it is a blessed privilege to engage in prayer.  Think of it, we mere confused, hurting, sinful mortals can speak to God through Christ, the author and finisher of our faith.  The Bible tells us God wants to hear from us and speak to us, because of His great love for us.   We also discover through prayer there is great power, great wisdom and great love.  We learn how to better manage our bodies, minds and spirits by staying connected.  All the issues; and “the personal, pertinent, and all-important questions for every soul” brought to Him in prayer are effectively, and efficiently dealt with. Enemies are defeated, grace and favor is applied.

You have an amazing day and life ahead of you.  Don’t waste it.  Don’t get side-tracked or distracted. Draw closer and  stay connected to Christ today, and experience the amazing and miraculous.

The Second Read

My husband taught a class entitled, “The Power in God’s Word“.   He used the first five chapters of Genesis to get the class to understand how important it is to read the Bible, not just for the sake of reading, but also for understanding.  He used the illustration of Seth (Cain and Abel’s brother) to show how easy it is to miss connections and relationships between events, timeframes, and biblical figures.  So how should one read the Bible? Pray first and ask the Holy Spirit for understanding, read slowly, and do a second read.

Let’s face it. We won’t truly understand who we are and our purpose with a cursory read of God’s Holy Word.  The average 21st Century Christian is woefully lacking in their knowledge, and understanding of God’s Word.  They pick up some bits and pieces, but not enough to produce the Power they should have.

The Bible said “my people perish from a lack of knowledge.”  That lack of knowledge is evident in our daily walk, and in our homes, schools, communities, businesses, and even in the church. The body of Christ does not reflect the Power of God. Just take a look around you.  Do you see evidence of the awesome power of God?

Taking time to study is part of our responsibility as servants, and inheritors of the Eternal blessing. Study helps us to rightly divide the word of truth.  As a consequence, we regain power that was lost, when our fore-parents sinned in the Garden of Eden.  We re-gain lineage [family line, ancestry, roots] and heritage [legacy, birthright, inheritance] from the power in God’s Word.

Do a second read for understanding, and for the power in God’s Word.

Power Belongs to God

Power Belongs To God

Over the weekend, we witnessed the power of a spirit yielded to God.  One of the new converts was dancing for the first time, and she was terrified.  To further complicate the situation, one of the dancers was not with us. So here we were, out-of-town, and it was her first time.  So they had to learn, within two hours new steps.   Fear had gripped them. Tears backstage.  Before the music started, the director told the audience shared they had to learn new parts in less than two hours, and asked for our prayers.  The music started, and when it came time for her part, she step boldly into the power that was within her.  The audience leaped to their feet.  It was a triumph.  We all witnessed and felt it. We became part of the Power.  And that is how it should be. We should alway step, leap, jump, walk forward, and pass our fears into the sacred place of power and appointment.

Remember being on the playground for the first time.  We wanted to try everything.  There is no fear.  The monkey bars, teeter-totter, jungle gym, swings…whatever there was we wanted to go there and try it.  And when we felt the point of mastery…we were free, and felt “I can do it all.”  That is the transforming power of God.  There is no fear in God.   There is liberty from bondage, from the shackles, the chains, the sin that so easily besets us.   He gave us power, love and a sound mind.  We feel capable, ready to use whatever talents, skills, abilities with the world to His glory. His power opens us up to our rightful place in the kingdom, where we experience what it is like to be children of the King.  It is joyous. It is glorious the shining brightness of His love and power.
